My Mission
Growing up as a young woman of color in a predominantly white school district, I have often felt the urge to fit in by playing down my differences like my Indian heritage. I believe people doing this deprives American society of the essential vibrance and variety that has made it so special. As I delved deeper into this dynamic, I felt that the lack of role models in leadership roles, especially in fields traditionally not associated with women of color, could be an underlying reason. Clearly, women leaders such as Rosa Parks and Maya Angelou have shown that talent, strength and leadership come in all colors. This non-profit organization is designed for young women of color to have easy access to interesting role models who have boldly ventured into novel fields and have left their mark. It is my hope that the stories and interviews on my website will inspire young girls of color to embrace their differentness and explore diverse fields with vigor and confidence.
